Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims – The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims is one of the most important art museums in the Champagne region, housed in the former Abbey of Saint-Denis in the heart of Reims. Founded in 1794, the museum occupies a complex of historic buildings dating from the 8th to 18th centuries, including remarkable Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The collection spans European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, with exceptional holdings of French, German, and Flemish painting and sculpture. The museum features significant works by Cranach, Jordaens, David, Delacroix, Corot, Gauguin, Monet, and Renoir. The museum is particularly renowned for its outstanding collection of 19th-century French painting, its important series of works by Camille Corot (27 paintings, one of the largest collections in France), and its remarkable holdings of German Renaissance art, including masterpieces by Lucas Cranach the Elder and the Younger. The museum also preserves one of the finest collections of medieval sculptures and religious art in France.
