Museum of Fine Arts, Boston β The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) is one of the largest and most comprehensive art museums in the United States, founded in 1870 and located along the Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts. The museum’s encyclopedic collection comprises nearly 500,000 works of art, making it one of the most extensive collections in the Americas. The MFA is renowned for its exceptional holdings of American art, including the finest collection of works by John Singer Sargent; Asian art, particularly Japanese collections that are among the finest outside Japan; French Impressionist painting; ancient Egyptian artifacts; and European Old Masters. The collection includes masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Rembrandt, VelΓ‘zquez, El Greco, and countless other masters. The museum complex, which includes buildings designed by Guy Lowell and the modern Art of the Americas Wing by Foster + Partners, spans over 450,000 square feet of gallery space.
