Duomo di Treviso

Duomo di Treviso – The Duomo di Treviso, officially the Cattedrale di San Pietro Apostolo (Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle), is the principal church of Treviso, Veneto, and the seat of the Bishop of Treviso. Founded in the early Christian period and rebuilt multiple times, the current structure dates primarily from the 15th-16th centuries, with a Neoclassical facade completed in 1836. The cathedral houses significant works of Venetian Renaissance art, most notably Titian’s Annunciation altarpiece (the Malchiostro Annunciation), painted around 1520, which is considered one of the artist’s masterpieces of this subject. The interior also features important frescoes by Pordenone in the Malchiostro Chapel, works by Paris Bordon, and medieval frescoes. The cathedral complex includes seven chapels radiating from the apse, each containing notable artworks. The Duomo di Treviso is particularly celebrated for Titian’s Annunciation, one of the most important Renaissance paintings in the Veneto region; Pordenone’s dramatic frescoes in the Malchiostro Chapel depicting the Adoration of the Magi and other scenes; and its role as a repository of Venetian Renaissance art in Treviso.
